Relic of Hamilton Duel Presented to New York Society

A marble memorial from the Hamilton versus Burr era is donated to the New York Historical Society by Mrs. John Ning Van Renesalaer. The inscription honors Alexander Hamiltons death and notes a public monument once stood at a Weehawken site marked by a ferry track and later removed amid hostile sentiment. The piece passed through owners including Capt. James Dens and James Gore Wing, with Highwood in the Wing family and Archibald Gracie King heirs ultimately presenting it to the Society.
