A farmer style column extols orchard beauty and steady work on the farm. It covers seed planting by hand, pumpkin crops, road improvements by farmers, coating roofs with galvanized metal, grinding grain for dairy and hogs, cream handling, soil signs, fly nets for horse harness, and hardware tips. It also includes a testimonial for Dr King’s New Discovery and note of the death of Dr Gilmore, pioneer county doctor.

Demonstration of DuPont shots boosts corn yield near Lamar

Under supervision of the College of Agriculture and Herbert Taylor of Joplin district, with Ralph Butler of DuPont, a demonstration at Beamer farm south of Lamar tests soil impact. The plot 100 by 250 feet has 168 holes four feet deep, forming a basin that preserves moisture. Corn is planted on both shot and natural ground to compare yields, with expectations of 50 to 80 percent higher output on the shot ground.
