Supreme Court Orders Tobacco Trust Disintegration Within Six Months
The U S Supreme Court ruled the American Tobacco Company a combination in restraint of trade and monopolization of commerce under the rule of reason. It ordered the trust disintegrated within six to eight months or placed in receivership, with a chance to recreate a compliant entity later. The decision extends to sixty five American corporations two English firms and twenty nine individuals involved. An earlier Standard Oil case is cited as comparable but broader in scope.
