No More Vacancies At G N I Before 1918

President M M Parks states there will be no vacancies at the Georgia Normal and Industrial College in Milledgeville before January 1918. All dormitory spaces are filled and external buildings are rented. The college reports strong demand with about one thousand applications for the September 17 opening, many refused, and a waiting list unlikely to grow before 1918.

Life Sentence For Dr. Chapman

In Sumter superior court Dr. Charles X Chapman was given a life term by Judge Littlejohn after a jury found him guilty of killing Walter Wade Weldon. The trial saw 191 witnesses and a 36 hour deliberation, with a mercy recommendation from the jury. Chapman remained calm and declined to discuss the case after sentencing.

Emmett Houser Joins Twelfth District Agricultural School Board

Emmett Houser of Fort Valley has been appointed by Governor Dorsey as a trustee from Houston County on the Twelfth District Agricultural School board. The act allows a donation of land of at least 200 acres in any district county for locating the school plus possible building or monetary gifts. If multiple donations exist the Governor and trustees will decide which to accept.

Nine of Taylor's 79 man quota certified for service left yesterday for Army Camp Gordon. Commanded by J. H. Neisler, the group includes Eric Newsome Jessie D Windham Sam Harbuck J. White Men Get Gang Sentences

A. A. Hill and W. F. Mann of Girard Alabama were found guilty of holding up the Farmers and Merchants Bank cashier W. E. Greene at Junction City last spring with a recommendation for misdemeanor punishment. Judge Howard sentenced them to twelve months on the chain gang without a fine. Dewey and Jay Robinson, accused in the murder of J. C. Cook at Box Springs in May, will be tried Thursday.

J F Heard Retired Banker Dies in Macon

Jacob F Heard 59 longtime Macon resident and former president of the Fourth National Bank died Saturday at his home 102 Heard Avenue after months of illness He left a widow four sons J A Heard J T Heard J F Heard Jr and Llewellyn Heard and a daughter Mrs G M Wicker He was a Primitive Baptist Church member and part of Heard Bros cotton warehouse firm in Macon.

Byromville Fire Destroys Cotton Plant and Damages Depot

VIENNA Sept 18 Fire late this afternoon between here and Montezuma on the Atlanta Birmingham and Atlantic destroyed a cotton gin seed house cotton warehouse meat market and damaged the AB and A depot. The fire started at the gin and spread quickly. Byromville has no fire department but citizens formed a bucket brigade. Loss not yet estimated.
