Taylor County Bar Association Session Sets Court Docket Reforms

Members of the Taylor County Bar Association met at the courthouse to discuss expediting the fall term of the Superior Court. They adopted resolutions urging the judge to promptly call the civil docket, schedule criminal docket times, delay criminal docket until the second week, and sound the criminal docket after the civil docket to identify cases ready for trial.

Upatoie Association Primitive Baptists Convened Tuesday

Reports from the Upatoie Association of the Primitive Baptist Church show a three day session convened on Tuesday with Elder J M Murray reelected moderator and Elder T D Roberts reappointed as clerk. Thirteen churches across Marston Schley Talbot Harris Chattahoochee and Taylor counties were represented by messengers, with a large ministerial attendance and several sermons daily at Prosperity church host community hospitality noted.

Court Association Meeting Adjourns Subject to Call

Bodies of mother and daughter found in river

The body of Mrs. Mathis, presumed to have jumped into the Ocmulgee River near Rose Hill Cemetery, was found Saturday afternoon by Charles Davis and Horace Ell. The daughter Mathis was recovered about 109 yards downstream, with the mother found earlier near the same spot. items including hat, purse, and parasol were noted.

Nix Denied New Trial in Columbus Murder Case

Bartow Nix, white man condemned for killing two men near Columbus, has had his plea for a new trial denied by the Supreme Court. His death sentence remains, with reports noting his strange behavior and near silence in prison. Governor Dorsey may face a lunacy inquiry, as relatives seek to challenge the verdict. Attorney George C. Palmer, retained for nine months, reports he has been unable to converse with Nix.

Gas Well In Dodge Yields Unknown Gas

Eastman Sept 7. On the R F Burch farm a gas well struck by Frank Wooten flows with enormous pressure. After drilling several hundred feet the drill dropped and gas surged up the pipe. The gas type is undetermined but abundant and continuous for days with no decrease in flow.

Taylor County Camp Meeting Fund Appeal Urges Support

Three of four thousand dollars are needed to build the tabernacle and place the seats. The pastor L A Harrell of the Butler Circuit asks readers to subscribe and help re establish the Camp Meeting, stressing it will serve a unique local need.
