Opening exercises were held at the Butler High school building at ten o clock under the direction of Prof. E H Dunn County School Superintendent and Superintendent for 1948 49 term Rev J W M Stipe participated A musical program by Mrs J W Edwards and students filled the packed auditorium Total enrollment 151 in high school 257 in grammar school Regular classes begin Tuesday at 9 30 am with dismissal at 3 30 pm The lunchroom will open next Monday.

Death of Mrs. Ella M. Eldridge Linked to Montfort Family
Local friends mourn the death of Mrs Ella Montfort Eldridge who died Sunday in New York City where she had lived. Daughter of the Montforts, she was a respected nurse in New York and is survived by her son George W Eldridge of New York. Her brothers O T Montfort and F B Montfort were notable Taylor County citizens. Her husband predeceased her.

Wm. F. Bembry Dies After Short Illness in Hawkinsville
Wm Franklin Bembry dies Thursday September 2 at Hawkinsville hospital after a week long illness attributed to thrills fever. He was born August 4 1910 in Pulaski county son of R T and Alice L Bembry of Hawkinsville. He served as Taylor County Agricultural Agent 1937 1940 later worked in Macon and Pulaski counties before farming near Hawkinsville. Funeral held September 4 at Clark's Funeral Home Hawkinsville with burial in Bembry family cemetery. He is survived by wife Pauline Jarrell Bembry two brothers and parents.

Interment Held Here for Mr. James H. Bell
Funeral services were held for James H. Bell, longtime Ashburn resident and deacon of the Ashburn Baptist church, with interment in the family lot. Born November 13, 1868, in Marion County, he built a successful lumber business after moving from Taylor County 48 years ago. He died after a year of illness and is survived by his wife Fannie Waters Bell and three sons, W. E. Bell, H. D. Bell, and C. P. Bell, all of Ashburn.

Clary serves as Dean as ministers from North and South Georgia gather for classes and a School of Missions by the Women’s Society for Christian Service. Dr. Pierce Harris of First Methodist Atlanta will be platform speaker.

Theodore Miller of Butler Obituary Mourned by Friends
The death of Mr. Theodore Miller at his home in Barto Pennsylvania is mourned by his friends and relatives here. Born and raised in Butler he joined the railway mail service for years operating between Atlanta Washington and Philadelphia. He retired recently and settled with his wife at Barto. He is survived by his wife and one son and many relatives.

Herman Talmadge leads M. E. Thompson by about three to one in county unit votes with 316 to 86 and 271 378 to 241 390 in popular ballots overall.
