Crowell Community CC History Highlights Local School Roots
Ninety four years ago land was set aside at the Agency Reserve for a city named Francisville but Macon grew instead. Ferry service linked the new towns, a Panhandle district formed, and Henry Crowell donated ten acres for Crowells Church and Crowells School. Crowells School evolved from a two story building to Willis Academy in 1884 and by 1921 Croweux School became a three room school on the same lot.

Interesting Compositions From Taylor County Children
Joseph Dickerson of Turner's Chapel School argues for teaching agriculture as a vocational subject in rural schools. He warns that without farming skills the youth may move to cities, urges land ownership, better fertilizer use, and profitable crops, and stresses savings, banking, and educating future generations about hogs, cows, and mules. He also defines knowledge as useful and desirable, linking it to civilization.
