Farmers to Participate in 1941 Cotton Program Must File Applications

Farmers planning to participate in the 1941 supplementary cotton program must file intentions by June 15. County Agent E G Blackwell notes stamps issued for voluntary 1941 cotton acreage reduction will start late June with many not distributed until July to September. Stamps worth 10 cents per pound can be used to buy cotton goods and signing the intent also protects future cotton allotments. Maximum stamps per farmer range from 25 to 50 dollars depending on farm and tenancy. Participants may also receive a $3 payment for completing specified food production practices to help small farmers garden and shift acreage from cotton to soil protecting crops. The program aims to convert eroding cotton lands to soil protecting crops.
