The J A Cameron homestead two miles south of Butler survived a costly arson attempt Sunday afternoon. Gasoline saturated camp and a nearby forage shed were torched while the Camerons were away. Firefighters saved the residence and big barn after a tense, hours long effort. Tracks led to the swamp where Willie Edwards confessed to the crime with partner Josh Wood later captured. A ferocious hail storm hit the Panhandle on Friday causing extensive crop damage across cotton and corn. Estimated losses include 60 acres of cotton on H. E. Saylor’s plantation, with eyewitnesses noting unprecedented destruction. Other sufferers include G. R. Lucas, F. Z. Nelson, J. C. Driskell, and several neighbors.
