Pace Qualifies for Re election to Congress

Americus June 19 at the Third District Democratic Executive Committee meeting it was announced that Hon Stephen Pace of Americus will seek re election to Congress from the district in the forthcoming primary. Pace’s entry fee was paid by a friend. He was not present due to duties in Washington. The committee fixed July 4 at 2 p m as the qualifying deadline with a 500 dollar entrance fee. The primary will be held with the State Democratic Primary on Sept 9. Resolutions praising President and service were adopted.

Two Aircraft Crashes At Local Airport Sunday Afternoon

Two advanced trainer ships from Moody Field Valdosta crashed at the local Government air port Sunday afternoon. Both crafts were flown by British cadets and suffered major damage but no injuries were reported. One plane collapsed its landing gear on landing, the other overshot the north end of the runway into a gully. Ground crew from Moody Field were en route to Valdosta for repairs. Earlier, a separate late night mishap saw a ship land with only six minutes of fuel left after a beacon-inspired direct approach.

WPA Lunchrooms Serve Georgia Students By Taylor Co

In Taylor County during the last school year 496 children were served an average of 10 306 hot lunches monthly in school lunch rooms by the Works Projects Administration of Georgia. The WPA lunchrooms in Georgia numbered 991 stations serving over 23 000 000 hot lunches year. They are locally sponsored by PTAs and others and provide hot lunches with three or more items on a scientifically planned menu.

Fishing licenses for 1942 43 on sale in Butler county

Fisheries official Zack Cravey announces 1942 43 season licenses are available at Butler County Ordinary J R Lunsford. Resident licenses cost 1 25, covering all service members stationed in Georgia. Out of state residents pay 5 25 for a season license 2 50 for 30 days and 1 50 for 10 days.

Ceiling Prices to be Filed with Rationing Board

The Local War Price and Rationing Board orders all county retailers to file a price list of ceiling costs for living commodities by July 1. A meeting in Macon at Hotel Dempsey on July 25 will explain the price control program with a CPA from Washington, followed by a Columbus session on July 26. Industrial users must apply for July and August sugar allotments between June 20 and July 5. Sugar stamps No. 5 and No. 6 cover two pounds each for periods June 28–July 25 and July 26–August 22, with stamps four weeks long. Permanent gasoline ration card registration is postponed to July 9–11, and existing rations last to July 22.

Six Taylor County colored men are to depart Saturday June 27 for induction into the U S Army. Male Citizens Aged 18 to 20 Told to Register Tuesday

The President calls for a fifth registration of all male citizens born between January 1, 1922 and June 1, 1924. In Taylor County registration occurs at Butler Court House and Reynolds Pharmacy in Reynolds from 7:00 AM to 9:00 PM Tuesday. If away, registrants may register in any U.S. county. Only one day is set aside and it is urged that all within the age group report.

Revival Services At Crowell Church This Week

Rev. Henry Brooks of Adel assists Rev. J. D. Smith in revival services at Crowell Methodist Church. Brooks is described as a splendid preacher and lecturer, drawing large crowds each evening. The pastor says the meetings may conclude Friday with the remainder of the week’s gatherings.

Taylor County Library continues a WPA driven effort to compile a permanent war record of all local men in service. Families are asked to bring letters detailing travels and experiences to be copied and shared. Letters should be brought to the library during posted hours for inclusion.

Charlie Camp dies at 62 in Butler Georgia

Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at 4 for Charlie Camp a prominent local colored citizen who died Tuesday after several weeks illness from paralysis. Also note classified notice seeking to rent or buy a good operating Underwood typewriter in Butler Georgia and surrounding area.

Youth Crusade Caravan Conducting Course at Local Church

A Youth Caravan comprising two young women, two young men, and an adult counselor is teaching religious courses this week at the local Methodist church. The group, trained weeks ago at Lake Juleniski North Carolina, promotes church work among youths and travels from Butler to Americus, under Pastor F A Gilbert. They lead devotional hours, sermons, and a workshop program daily, with Miss Frances Clements guiding adult workers with youths at nine each evening. The caravan movement started in 1939 under Bishop Paul Kern, now includes 85 teams serving over 2,000 churches nationwide.

Local Canning Plant Opens To Public Twice Weekly

The canning plant at Butler high school lunch room operates for public canning on Tuesday and Thursday each week. Taylor county citizens are urged to can surplus produce. tin cans are available for purchase. Parents should send beans tomatoes and beets on Wednesdays for the school lunch room. lunch tickets for next term will be issued. Mosley Hears Death Sentence For Third Time

Judge George C Palmer and Hubert Galhoun presided at a Butler Georgia special Taylor Superior Court term sentencing S T Mosley to die by electrocution on July 10 1942 in Reidsville execution to be carried out by the Warden of the State Penitentiary with specified guards clergy and relatives present. The decision follows a 1939 murder conviction and Mosley’s prior escaperespite governor respite.
