Germans Comet Bombers No More Destructive Than Thousand Pounders
In Southern England on June 18 a witness describes two German flying bombs burning out their propulsion and exploding near a death dive. Berlin radio boasted greater destruction than regular 1 000 pound bombs, but the report says the comet bombs matched the impact and blast of February and March London raids. Defense relies on anti aircraft fire as they approach at about 200 mph from 1 000 feet. Explosions resemble typical bombs, ripping walls of three to four story buildings and shattering glass over blocks.
