Civilian Conservation Corps company 1430 arrives by special train from Fort Benning to Fountain's Lake two miles north of Butler. News reached here yesterday of the death Monday in Daytona Beach Florida of Father D tia, father of Mr L R Dean of Butler. The bereaved man was widely known and many friends extend sympathy to the family.
Reynolds and Taylor county readers learn that Dr. Guy G. Lunsford of Millen has been elected associate worthy grand patron of the Grand Chapter of Georgia Order of the Eastern Star. He already serves as deputy grand master of the Georgia Masons, a rare dual leadership noted as possibly unique in Masonry. Dr. Lunsford is Jenkins County health commissioner, a trustee of the state medical college in Augusta, and a leading Baptist church figure in Millen as moderator of the Middle Association and Sunday school superintendent.
Natural water flow of 42 gallons per minute tapped at Reynolds supplies a golf course in middle Georgia. The stream, from a 150 foot depth, feeds a pristine bed rich in kaolin. Associated Press reports Judge Price Gilbert a former Chattahoochee circuit judge and longtime Columbus resident will administer the oath of office to the unnamed official in Atlanta on Tuesday. Pace disclosed the above on Monday, confirming the plan.
The Maule Woman's Home Demonstration Club will sponsor a Tacky Party and ice cream supper at Maule school on Friday June 28 at 8 o'clock. The public is cordially invited to attend.
Georgia highway officials announced federal funds will finance about 10 million dollars for road work, with 6 million dollars for initial contracts. Major projects include paving state highway No 3 and the 18 mile No 8 stretch from Butler to the Schley county line. Work expected to start within four weeks and finish paving on the No 8 segment by June 24.
A. J. Staley Jr colored of Americus known as a hot check artist was captured Saturday at Blackshear on a warrant from local citizens. Sheriff R P McGuffin transported him to the Taylor county jail to await October term trials unless bond is posted. Staley has prior trouble in recent years, officers say.
The county agent reports strong activity after announcing a Forestry Camp would open on Sunday the 18th. Over 400 farmers received letters to list surplus vegetables and other goods. Local authorities promise preference to locally grown items, with a central produce point planned at Butler or the camp as supplies allow.
Mrs J Arch Adams died at her Thomaston home Tuesday morning about 10 o clock after months of illness. She was about 84, survived by sons H C H E and F W Adams of Taylor county and B C Adams of Macon, J W and A C Adams of Thomaston, daughters Annie Saunders of Macon and Frank Parker wife of Pratt s burg, Ina and Nanlouw Adams of Thomaston. Funeral and interment were held in Thomaston at 11 o clock yesterday.

Secretary Wallace proposes destroying ten million acres of growing cotton to cut surpluses and fund the program with high processing taxes. Growers would sign contracts to rent land at six dollars per acre or more, exchange options on roughly 2.4 million bales at six cents per pound, and may exercise options through January. Campaign begins next week with county committees listed for Taylor County and Panhandle regions.
Francis Simmons Holmes a Weston native and longtime Macon resident died suddenly in his Macon home after a Monday indigestion episode. He owned Mansfield dray line, was a Mount of the Scottish Rite and Shriner, and leaves a widow, eight children, and several Charleston relatives. He had lived in Taylor County for two years to manage a Flint River stock farm.
County agent vaccinated 2,445 white Leghorn pullets last week for chicken pox and 60 or 74 hogs for ckelera. About 2h percent of the pullets hatched in Taylor County this spring have been vaccinated. the remaining birds will be vaccinated in July and August.
Atlanta June 20 The new highway organization led by minority commissioner Judson P Wilhoit of Warrenton arranged to pay more than 1 500 000 to highway department workers unpaid since the governors budget dispute began on April 1. Atlanta and East Point employees were paid in cash Tuesday and checks mailed to workers statewide. The highway board chairman J W Barnett ousted by the governor’s martial law proclamation said he was still chairman and would set up new offices. He called the governor’s action illegal and tyrannical, and warned that his organization would act at its own risk. Washington said federal funds for road work under the public works program may be delayed past July 1 unless disputes are settled. The governor accused the highway board of violating the law and wasteful practices, called for resignations, and noted convicts’ idleness could worsen. (Turn to page 2)
Taylor County cotton farmers are urged to attend a county wide meeting at Butler on Saturday June 24 at 10 am to discuss the new acreage reduction plan. If unable to attend, farmers should go to one of four meetings next week at Crowell Wesley Mark schoolhouses on Monday Tuesday and Wednesday evenings at 8 pm.
