Father’s Day observance noted with long local history
The piece traces Father’s Day origins to Mrs. John Bruce Dodd of Spokane and the 1910, 1910s-era movements, noting it became a national observance on the third Sunday in June. It recalls community figures, the town’s past leaders, and a portrait of life in Reynolds, Georgia, including curious anecdotes about Daniel Whatley and local religious and educational leaders.
