Deferred Mother’s Day Exercises Move to June in Butler

Butler observes Mother’s Day next Sunday not on May 10th but the first Sunday in June due to ongoing commencement preparations. The Methodist church hosts a program of songs readings and recitations by Sunday school pupils under older guidance with a goal of being entertaining and instructive. All men are urged to attend and wear a white flower to honor mothers.

Express Messenger Admits His Guilt in Georgia Larceny

Oscar Lee Williams a 24 year old express messenger for Southern Express Company and Fort Valley native, is arrested in Macon on larceny after trust for stealing 4900 dollars in seven packages from Sparta to Atlanta. He confesses and returns 3250. 900 more allegedly given to Fred Thompson, who is charged with gaming. Williams hid 3000 in a cigar box at his mother’s Fort Valley home. His routes ran between Macon and Camack on the Georgia Railroad and he is held on bond.

Wife's death drives husband to self destruction in Macon

A J Chapman aged 40, a Macon grocer, killed himself after finding his wife dead from natural causes. Coroner ruled the wife died of natural causes. Chapman's brother in law F R Christian aided in the discovery and described Chatman as acting like a mad man.

Flint River Bridge Let Contract Awarded to Virginia Co

The contract for the Flint River Bridge at the Agency has been awarded to the Virginia Bridge and Iron Co of Roanoke. W. E. Leigh will supervise preparatory work as engineers plan the 238 foot bridge with 14 panels, 16 feet wide. Convicts continue road work toward the river, praised as top quality for the state.

Burns Detectives Fined $100 Each in Frank Case Probe

Atlanta May 28 three William J Burns operatives W W Rogers C C Tedder and L C Whitfield were fined 100 each in City Court and bound over to state courts for work on the L M Frank murder case without police approval. Other Burns operatives Sears and McWorth had charges dismissed.

Fearful Empress of Ireland disaster claims 1000 lives

The Empress of Ireland sank after a collision with the collier Storstad on the St. Lawrence near Rimouski Quebec. About 1 000 lives were lost with 339 saved by the Lady Evelyn and 60 by the Eureka as survivors endured injuries in frigid waters.
