Mercer Offers Extensive Summer Courses in Macon
More than 80 courses will be offered at Mercer University in two summer terms. The first term starts June 18 with 63 courses, followed by a three week second term offering 20 courses. The program includes teacher education, a Spanish for Elementary Teachers course, and sessions led by visiting professors among 36 regular faculty. Dormitories open June 18. registration June 19. classes begin June 20.

Toll rises on holiday highway deaths across nation
The holiday period saw rising highway fatalities with the national death toll accelerating toward the 1957 four day record. An Augusta man died in a Denmark South Carolina wreck along with other KIA incidents near Columbus and Albany. An Atlanta man W C Fannin Jr 28 was killed before his June 7 wedding. George Singleton of Augusta died in a gas tank explosion after a truck overturn near Denmark. Marines Isaac Mathis and Robert Straubs perished near Albany and Sgt Charles Butts died near Midway Georgia.

Shotgun Claims Life of Macon Girl
A 13 year old girl was killed in Macon Georgia when a shotgun discharged while a 15 year old boy showed it to her in his suburban home. Investigators said the shot appears accidental though Bibb county medical examiner Dr Leonard Campbell will review the case. Names were not released immediately.
