He enlisted October 23, 1942, served with the 63rd Battalion at Camp Walters, and rose from Corporal to officer. James A. Braddy, son of Mrs. Jack Brooks, transferred from Camp Crowder to Camp Murphy for Radar training. J E Trussell, son of Mrs. Eva Trussell, completed Aviation Ordinance training in Jacksonville after basic at Bainbridge and is stationed at Gulfport awaiting orders.

OPA Sets $41 Ceiling Price For Tobacco In State Markets
Washington July 24 the OPA set a new ceiling on flue cured tobacco prices to match last year’s levels with a maximum weighted purchase price of 41 per hundred pounds. The 1948 market average was 38.75 per hundred pounds under a similar basis. The order covers prices paid at tobacco auctions while farm scrap from leaves has a 5 per hundred pounds limit. Auction scrap remains exempt from price control.

Mrs. Mattie Bazemore Allen died at her sister J F Posey’s home after a five week illness. Born February 29 1880 in Harris County Georgia she lived in the city seven years and was a Wesley Methodist member. The funeral bowled Saturday at four oclock with Rev M J Wood and Rev J M Cox presiding. interment in Baptist cemetery. Survived by son H E Allen sister J F Posey brother W Co Bazemore five grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Out of town relatives attended from Columbus Ga and nearby towns.
