July 21 in Parral Mexico Pancho Villa infamous as Robin Hood of Mexico was killed by seven attackers on foot while leaving Parral on a journey to his ranch. Villa and two of his guards were slain, another guard wounded, as federal forces pursued the assailants near the river bed with troops from nearby towns aiding the hunt.
The notice advertises examination dates August 8 and 4 1923 and lists Georgian and American teaching manuals. Atlanta mourns Thomas F E Watson late U S senator known as The Sage of McDuffie County eulogized at joint house and senate session Gov Gifford Walker opened the program followed by U S Senator Harris and Secretary of State S G McLendon. The ceremony lauds his fight for the masses and notes his serene home life with his wife and son Melodic remarks honor his public service and personal devotion.
Mr Jno Ard died at his mother Mrs S M Ard in Lumpkin Georgia after a several months illness. He was 40, a Macon resident, and a Baptist, Cross lodge 173 F and A M, Knights of Pythias member. He married Lillian B Garrett in 1917 and leaves a daughter Sarahel Ard, his mother and thirty sisters.
Atlanta July 19 McMichael amended resolution calling for an investigation of the State Highway department passed the Georgia house 142 to 20 and moves to the senate. The house in committee of the whole rejected a similar inquiry and adopted the McMichael measure after three days of debate.
Coroner of Daugherty County T C Murray died at his Albany home at 5 30 PM following a brief illness at age 82. Mrs Murray Farmerly and M V Murray of Macon were listed as survivors and were at his bedside when he passed.
Floyd Lawhorn 30 was found guilty of murder in the 1921 killing of S. S. Monk 70 near Monk’s Tay lor County farm. He received a life sentence after a four hour twenty minute jury deliberation in Tift Superior Court. Sims Lawhorn also faced trial and received a life term, with the case later affirmed by the Supreme Court.
Mrs. Roscoe Carroll of Vienna died at 6 30 p m at her home from injuries after a Southern Railway southbound train struck her limousine this morning. The crash toppled the car. she leaves a husband two children and is a daughter of J R Barfield.
Atlanta July 18 Advocates of biennial sessions scored a bigger win in the state senate where the Mundy bill passed 41 to 5 an ample margin over two thirds and now moves to the house docket along with five companion measures from house members.
The six weeks summer course at Butler High School reports 82 students starting the term last Monday. Attending schools include Butler How ard Turner's Chapel Wesley Cro well Peacock Rupert Rhodes Char ing Mauk Pine Burr Marion and Macon cour. The faculty features Prof. W. T. Austin Sept Prof. B. E. Flowers Mrs. Pickens Riley Miss Helen Wilson Miss Lucy Cox and music teacher Mrs. J. A. Pendergrast. Officials urge county children to enroll within the next four weeks for the program’s benefits.
Dr W C Wright a prominent Ft Valley physician banker and peach grower died at the Middle Georgia Sanatorium Macon after a stroke in a peach orchard walk with his son. He was about 63 and long served as Exchange Bank president and church leader in the community.
