Centenarian Stabbed During Communion in Macon Church
A 100-year-old deacon, Phil Towns, was stabbed in the chest with an ice pick during a church communion service at St James Sanctified Church on Hall Street in East Macon. He was rushed to Macon Hospital. the wound was not considered serious, and investigators had no motive.

Macon July 18 W J Juhan Sr age 65 president of the Union Dry Goods Company died Friday at a Macon hospital after a two week illness. He was a Jones county native who moved to Macon and helped organize the company on Cherry Street next to J N Neel stores. He was well known in New York Philadelphia and Baltimore markets.
