Pfe Gray Fountain, son of Mr and Mrs T L Fountain of Taylor County, saw Pebble Packing Company Georgia peaches in New York selling at 15 cents a pound. He bought a sample to show locals their fruit travels far. Fountain’s father grows a peach orchard near Butler and recently displayed large peaches on tree branches for customers.

Tifton Hero Among Victims as Famed Super Fort Crashes Into Sea
The B 29 Dauntless Dottie crashed off Kwajalein in the Marshall Islands killing ten of its 13 aboard. Among the dead was Pfc. Lowell B. Spivey of Windsor North Carolina returning to non hazardous duty after two brothers were killed in action. Survivors were Lt. Neville S Sgt. McMurray and SSgt Gregory. The crew had led Tokyo missions and Dottie named for Morgan's wife.

Forest Fire Setters Plead Guilty and Are Fined
The Georgia Department of Forestry reports two fire setters pled guilty in Wilcox county superior court and were fined a total of 84.95 dollars. District Fire Warden Vance Turner arrested both men, as District Forester W. G. Wallace notes intensified enforcement of forest fire laws. The unit will investigate uncontrolled woods fires and prosecute when criminal setting is proven.

A native of Butler, he recalls the “ole country” around Butler and narrowly escaped front-line driving. He aims to return home to his eight month old daughter and values mail and newspapers for morale. He holds four bronze battle stars and 74 points toward discharge.

Reynolds Post Office Advances to Second Class
Reynolds is slated to be advanced to Second Class status as of July 1 1945 following Congressional approval of Post Office Reclassification Bill 3035. The change bases grading on 100 percent postal receipts, with Reynolds joining Ellaville Lumpkin and Shellman also rising to Second Class under the new law.
