General Presentments by Grand Jury in Semi Annual Session

The July 1954 Taylor County Superior Court Grand Jury presents findings from inspection of county buildings and records. It recommends building a jail room for women prisoners and reappointing Rufus C. Kirksey as Ex-Officio J. P. for the Porterville District. Mrs. Sara Della Woodall Dies at 85 in Mauk

Mrs. Sara Della Woodall widow of W. A. Woodall died at her Mauk home after a brief illness due to paralysis. About 85 years old, born Oct. 6, 1869 in Talbot County, she lived in Mauk 31 years and was active in religious work. Funeral at Mauk Baptist Church conducted by Rev. J. H. Stanford on June 30 at 3 p.m. Burial in Mauk Cemetery. Pallbearers named. She leaves stepchildren Hinton Woodall Gula Woodall R. W. Woodall Mrs. Hilda Newby and Mrs. Lizzie Maude Pierce.

Heavy Crop Damage Reported in Schley County After July Storm

Ellaville reports a July 5 storm causing extensive damage in Schley County. A wind and hail storm damaged crops, unroofed several tenant houses, and uprooted numerous trees along a one mile by five mile path in the southeast.

Fine Tribute Paid Taylor County By Columbus Visitors

A Columbus Phenix City Hi Neighbor tour highlighted Taylor County's peach growth with over 100 carloads shipped. Visitors toured sand pits, Flint Electric Cooperative in Reynolds, Crowell farm area, Butler High School Gym financed by 76 000 local bonds, and enjoyed a park in Reynolds.

Taylor Co Superior Court Adjudicates Murder and Burglaries

The Taylor County Superior Court held a July term in Butler from Monday to Tuesday. It disposed of 17 criminal cases including C D Simmons convicted of assault with intent to murder and given four years. James Booker convicted of rape and burglary with penitentiary terms. The grand jury returned 28 true bills and general presentments appear elsewhere. Judge T Hicks Fort presided with officials including Russell C Davison and T Jarrell.

Death of W. J. O. Barfield Retired Taylor County Farmer

W. J. O Barfield a longtime Taylor County resident died at his home on Saturday afternoon at age 81. He was born December 12 1872 to Owen and Armanda Barfield and spent his life farming here. Survived by his wife a sister Mrs Fred Bone and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Friday at 4 p m conducted by Rev Oscar White Bethlehem Church with interment in the nearby cemetery. Hi Neighbor visit tours Reynolds area and Flint Electric

H Joiner superintendent Reynolds schools and S J Tankers ley Flint Electric manager led a delegation touring the Flint Electric Corp headquarters serving ten counties. Amelia Fletcher electrical adviser hosted in an air conditioned building. The group visited peach packing shed run by Wainwright who distributed baskets of peaches.

Revival to Begin Sunday at Howard Methodist Church

The summer revival at Howard Methodist Church starts Sunday morning and runs to Friday July 16 with two services daily at 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. The morning message opens the series, and Rev J Kell Hinson of Lakeland Methodist will lead as guest minister for the remainder. Financial Aid for Farmers Sought by Hon. Garland Byrd

Garland Byrd, candidate for Georgia agriculture commissioner, urges emergency state aid to avert disaster in farming. He proposes an emergency fund aligned with Mills Lane’s irrigation financing plan and including state down payment support or guarantees for farmers with solid credit.

4-H Cub Members Attend Florida Camp This July

Four H club members aged 14 and older will attend a Florida camp from July 19 to 23. The senior members will tour points of interest including Silver Springs. A chartered bus will transport them and deposits of 10 dollars should be sent to the County Agent’s office as spaces are limited.
