A sailor in a coracle relentlessly chases the Hispaniola as the schooner drifts and braves gusts. The pursuit ends when the hull strikes the coracle, revealing two watchmen and a scene of mutiny aboard as the ship buckles under heavy weather.
Albert Searcy, a negro farm hand near Butler, arrested by Sheriff R. P. McGuffin, is jailed on concealing stolen property tied to a December 19 burglary at Vanlandingham’s Howard store. Notorious bandit Anderson confessed to Vanlandingham and Posey store burglaries, aiding detectives in tracing loot to Searcy’s home. sheriff to continue search for remaining items as commitment for Searcy is arranged with Anderson to testify for the State.
Five armed men robbed Capitol theatre in Macon while 500 patrons watched a Western on screen. Manager Howard Amos and staff were threatened. $600 taken from the safe and cash drawer. The bandits escaped with one cashier detained briefly. police suspect underworld gangsters from a distant city.
Butler Baptist Church unveils a forward looking annual plan with a budget prioritizing generous support of the Cooperative Program and The Christian Index for every resident family. Pastor E Hy Dunn leads a Mercer graduate pastorate with a cordial welcome to the Junction City field. The church lists officers including Deacons M T Chapman and H H Gee, Treasurer H L Fountain, Clerk J R Wilson, and various department heads.
A spelling match between Butler and Reynolds is planned with Rev. J. T. Adams as Butler captain and M Brown Marshall as Reynolds captain. The event starts Friday evening Feb 7 at 7 pm at the Butler courthouse, with a return match to be held later at Reynolds. Admission is 10 cents for adults and five cents for those under 10, proceeds to a charitable or civic organization yet to be named.
The Taylor County Bar Association led by Hon. W. Steed will convene tomorrow evening at Mr. Steed’s residence. At 6 o’clock members will be guests of Mrs. Steed for an informal reception and dinner.
Sheriff’s officers raided a 200 gallon capacity still located a few hundred yards from the Pons road leading from Butler to Auk. The outfit and a large quantity of mash were destroyed. The still was not in operation at the time and no arrest was made.
Miss Onida Brewer starred as Miss Blue Bonnet with Miss Sara Windham as Minerva and Prof. J K Brown as Dr Evans. Miss Juanita Smith and Magnolia’s Mrs Evans delivered fine turns while Miss Boswell sang between acts. League sponsors thank the public for warm patronage.
The whole milk route began in Saylor County on Thursday morning January 16. Officials expect the venture to grow into a major revenue source for the county. Milk output already reaches 200 to 250 gallons with plans to expand routes to cover more areas. Producers with 60 to 100 gallons are urged to cooperate and haul to the route or arrange truck pickup. The effort, aided by local business leaders from Butler and Reynolds, has hosted six well attended meetings. Organizing boys pig calf and corn clubs is also underway to foster farming skills. Next week county and home demonstration agents attend the Georgia Farmers Conference in Athens, after which prices for pasture grasses Lespedera and Kudzu will be quoted and acreage expanded.
A Howard school district truck carrying students struck a sand bed this morning but no injuries were reported. The vehicle sustained light damage as it adjusted its course to continue to Butler, with officials noting all children remained safe.
