Negro Mysteriously Disappears From Taylor Co. Jail

Jim Welcher colored, about 20, jailed on November 27 for alleged murderous assault and robbery, vanished from Taylor county jail on New Year’s Eve night. Authorities, including Sheriff J. M. Bone and Solicitor Hubert Calhoun, pursued leads with no definite outcome. The body, bullet ridden, was later found in woods near Butler with no clear evidence of the culprits. Investigation continues.

Seats Installed In New Theatre Preparatory To Opening

The Herald reports on Dr. L. R. Dean's new brown brick theatre east of the court house square nearing completion. Visitors note large seating capacity over five hundred, a wide balcony, air inclined floors, leather upholstered seats with knee space, and advanced stage equipment aimed at Fox Theatre level quality. Installation is led by J. A. Ives of American Seating Co. with work by Moos. opening date to be announced.

Financial Condition City of Butler As of January First 1937

To the People of Butler with a limited revenue of less than three thousand dollars per annum we have administered the town s affairs on a cash basis paying current expenses as we went along. We have paid for a fire truck a trash truck fire plugs and left the treasury with a cash balance to meet incidental expenses with a clean financial slate as of Jan 1 1937. Thomaston Credit Association to Hold Stockholders Meeting

The Thomaston Production Credit Association will hold its annual stockholders meeting in Thomaston at 9:00 a m January 11 in the Upson County courthouse. The association serves Upson Pike Lamar Taylor and Monroe counties. The past season's pea total was about $2000000 loans to 350 farmers. All farmers in the territory are invited. Plans and financial statements will be discussed. Mr Ernest Graham of the Production Credit Corporation will attend.

Butler Friends Learn of Fred P. Golding Death at Richmond

Messages from Butler report the peaceful passing of Fred P. Golding at his Richmond Virginia home on December 30. Funeral and interment followed in Trenton New Jersey on January 2 beside his late companion, who died nearly a year earlier at the Butler residence.

Judge Water C Stewart died unexpectedly in his Milaville office on Tuesday at age 76. He had just begun his third term as Ordinary of Schley county after serving as postmaster at Aville. Surviving siblings include sister Mrs Claude Baldwin of Ellaville and brother Lester Stewart of Dawson.
