Georgia Power pays city shares under Municipal Partnership Plan
Mr. H. L. Russell, Georgia Power Company manager, delivered checks to Butler $1517.08 Reynolds $1207.00 and Roberta $1032.97, representing three percent of 1956 gross receipts from electric sales to commercial and residential customers. Total 1956 tax bill exceeded $22.6 million with over $1.715 million distributed to communities under the plan, an increase of about $135,000 from 1955. Property taxes by city, county and state totaled $4.3 million. the 22.6 million excludes additional state and material sales taxes.

Crawford student wins legion oratory contest
Billy Harrison a Crawford County High School 10th grader won first place in the American Legion Post 230 contest on The Constitution of the United States. He will advance to district competition. Other winners were Angelo Hunt and Edwina O Neal each earning prizes of 10 and 5 dollars.

Butler high school closes a strong season with 14 wins and 14 losses for the girls and boys. Girls star Marie Moulton scored 20 in the sectional opener and 24 in the consolation, while Amna Jarrell 40 and Ama Nette Guy 27 highlighted the scoring.
