Mr. Bob Swearingen and Robert Jr. paid 1200 for a 12 month old bull calf from Rock Hereford Farm Thomaston Ga. DHB Domestic Woodrow A-3 born Jan 18 1949 sired by Domestic Woodrow A, a half brother to Essar Domestic Woodrow a top 1949 Grand Champion in Memphis. Dame is a half sister to Domestic Woodrow, grandsire of Swearingen’s bull. Swearingen has Taylor county’s largest registered polled herd and 4-H member Robert Jr will show the animal at the fall fair.

Government dumps surplus potatoes to farmers at one cent per 100 pounds
Washington February 3. The government began dumping 25.9 to 40 million bushels of surplus potatoes at giveaway prices to rid markets. Farmers may use them as fertilizer or livestock feed but not for human consumption as potatoes will be dyed. Secretary Brannan ordered the move and cited a need to reevaluate the potato problem. Price supports for the 1950 crop were cut to $1.01 a bushel, nine cents lower than before.

Funeral Rites Held for Mrs Barfield 68 in Ideal Georgia
Funeral services for Edna Rosella Barfield age 68 longtime Macon county resident were held at County Line Baptist Church with Rev C L Goss officiating. She was born in Macon county daughter of the late William P and Sara Barfield James and widow of Jesse Monroe Barfield. Survivors include three daughters Mrs Robert Hammock of Oglethorpe Mrs Claude Greene Alma and Mrs Marvis Halli Cordele a son Glenn H Barfield of Chicago and two brothers W G James Butler and W E James Ideal.

State Juvenile Court System Approved in Georgia
Georgia's General Assembly approved a half million in new state services including a 23 court statewide juvenile system. The House approved 325000 in new appropriations to be sent to the Senate. The Senate backed a separate authority to build multimillion dollar highways. The House also passed measures against sex crimes toward children, boosted teacher retirement pay, and allowed divorce on incurable insanity grounds.

Two Prominent Local Citizens Hospitalized By Heart Attacks
Mrs. M. A. Chapman suffered a violent heart attack Friday midnight and was reported slightly improved at the local hospital. Mr. J. F. Macon Youth 14 Killed in Accidental Shot by Brother
Carlton Bivins a Lanier high school student was killed at home when his 11 year old brother fired a 22 caliber rifle. The coroner said the brothers were playing with the weapon when it discharged.

Schley County Woman Killed Stepping From Bus
Miss Lois Larkin, 54, was killed near Americus when she stepped from behind a Trailways bus and was struck by a truck driven by E. D. Jones of Pelham. Investigating state patrolmen labeled the accident unavoidable. no charges were filed. Larkin and her sister Ada Parker had boarded the bus in Ellaville en route home eight miles south in Sumter County.

Mrs. Annie Belle Bussey Downs Dies in Local Hospital
Mrs. Annie Belle Bussey Downs died of pneumonia at the local hospital in the early hours Sunday. Born November 6 1878 in Taylor county she was daughter of Thomas J. Bussey and a Wesley Methodist member. Funeral services were held Sunday at 2 pm at Wesley with Rev. J W M Stipe and Rev E H Dunn officiating. interment in the family lot. Survived by husband J M Downs and five sons and one daughter. Pallbearers named. Funeral arrangements by Edwards Funeral Home.
