Reynolds residents report a flurry of relatives and friends visiting Macon Columbus Sylvester and Atlanta for Christmas. Local households list guests from Athens Shorter College Vanderbilt and University of Georgia while shop ads promote Westinghouse radios and free roasters with purchases.
On December 14 Reynos high school seniors and staff enjoyed a turkey dinner hosted by Mrs. Edgar Whatley and Mrs. Robert Bell at Bell’s home. Festive decorations, a lit Christmas tree, gifts, tables assigned by numbers, plus games and carols, marked a 27 strong turnout.
The public Library of Reynolds will be closed Friday and Saturday December 24 and 25 for the Christmas holiday per Librarian.
The weekly Christian Science Lesson Sermon for The Mother Church branches features Bible citations such as Romans 15 4 and a correlative selection from Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy The text emphasizes learning hope through scripture and the author’s assertion that Bible and the text are the sole authorities in Christian Science practice.
Growers from across Georgia met in Macon and organized the Association of Georgia Peach Growers to promote the industry. Wilmer Dickey of Musella named temporary chairman and John McKenzie of Montezuma temporary treasurer. A 16 member incorporators committee will reconvene January 11 to finalize details. The group clarifies it is not a marketing body and will not conflict with the Georgia Peach Growers' Exchange.
Atlanta December 20 The senate appropriations committee voted 9 to 8 against paying general assembly members seven dollars per day for December 22 to January 3 during the holiday recess. They did approve mileage payments to and from their homes. An amendment to strike per diem and replace with mileage was defeated 8 to 6, as Senator Walter Whitehead proposed.
Atlanta reports State Treasurer Geo B Hamilton repeats there is no deficit in the treasury for December teachers salaries and says the payments are an advance rather than due until January 1. He notes $522,000 paid of $1.3 million and the rest pending tax receipts. He also mentions a deficit question tied to per diem expenses for legislators with a bill ready in the House. Veterans Bureau says $700,000 would be turned over to the general fund, with 47 percentallocable to teachers salaries.
Washington correspondent Sara Orr reports Congressman Pace urging moderation in a House bill on wages. He argues it would devastate small business and employment while protecting workers, and calls for closing doors to aliens to preserve American citizenship and job opportunities for Americans.
Geor gia Taylor County notice states the Federal Farm Mortgage Corporation will sell at public outcry the property in Taylor County to satisfy the debt secured by a deed to secure debt. The sale is set for the first Tuesday in January 1988 during court hours at the Taylor County courthouse. The 175.58 acre property is described by lot numbers in the 8th land district.
