Georgia Power Tax Payments Hit Taylor and Crawford Counties

Georgia Power Co sends 1957 tax payments totaling 10 553.43 to Taylor County official and 2 745.70 to Crawford County official. The company’s 1957 property tax will total 4 758 700 with funds split to general, schools, cities, towns and state. Municipal partnership payments to 348 municipalities totaled 1 710 882 earlier this year.

Butler Band Concert Draws Large Sunday Crowd

A Sunday afternoon band concert in Butler drew a large crowd with attendees praising the youngsters' music. They thanked Band Director Basil Rigney for promoting music and appreciation. Monday night the band members were hosted at a Christmas party by Mr and Mrs Rigney at the Community House.

Holiday House Tour in Reynolds a holiday success

The Gordon- Carson Chapter UDC and Reynolds Woman's Club hosted a two session Holiday House Tour on Dec 8 drawing visitors from Butler Marshallville Fort Valley Ideal Montezuma Oglethorpe Vienna and Macon. Guides from the local high school led guests through homes of Whatley Waters Whatley and Tankersley with beige white and gold themes and festive decorations.

Eight Die in Georgia Tenant House Fire

In Ellabell Georgia a rural tenant house burned in subfreezing weather killing eight people. Victims include Mary Lee Mays 49 Pete Dixon and six of their children all identified as African American. Anderson Mays 46 and a 13 year old daughter escaped with injuries. The fire origin remains undetermined and the stove heat source noted.

Reynolds to Elect Mayor and Two Aldermen Tuesday

The City of Reynolds will hold an election on Tuesday January 7 for a Mayor and two Aldermen. Incumbent Mayor Henry G Hicks seeks reelection. Councilman Joe Goodroe runs for reelection to the City Council. Retiring Council member L W Cooke will not seek another term and Henry Hobbs announces candidacy to fill the Cooke vacancy. The city clerk notes additional candidates may enter the race.

Tom Bone Hurt In Auto Crash Near Thomaston

Tom Bone, prominent building contractor from this city, was injured Sunday night when his car left the pavement three miles south of Thomaston in Upson county. The vehicle overturned several times. Bone received two broken bones and multiple cuts and bruises. He was treated at Upson County Hospital and returned home Monday.

More than 300 delegates from 41 Georgia Electric Membership Corporations met in the Henry Grady Hotel Atlanta December 9 and 10 to review yearly activities and plan 1958. Sen Russell spoke at the banquet where Miss Allene Burke of Millen was crowned Miss Georgia Rural Electrification with Miss Donna Jane Jay of Warner Robins as alternate.
