E L Harris mayor explains rising taxes in Butler Georgia describes police costs water system upgrades and bond issues. He notes 6000 feet of water lines added in 12 months expanding service and potential tax relief from increased water revenues while inviting citizen inspection of city books.

C P East superintendent appeals Meansville Georgia readers of Herald for support of Pine Mountain Children's Home Inc. The home houses twenty nine children and relies on voluntary contributions to fund Christmas care and daily needs. He invites visits to the home and emphasizes faith and charity.

The Methodist Men’s Bible Class adopted resolutions on the death of Rev W E Hightower who taught for two years. Twenty seven members elected Prof Dwight Compton superintendent of Butler High School as his successor with unanimous support.
Funeral services for Elton Scott age 70 were held Saturday at Sand Bethel church in Taylor county near Rupert with Rev. J W Clark of Buena Vista Baptist Church in charge. Scott died suddenly in a Columbus hospital after years of poor health. He is survived by his widow, a son L J Scott, two daughters and several grandchildren.
Clark Gaines secretary of the Georgia Department of Commerce is named an Economic Cooperative Administration Field Counselor in Atlanta for free consultations with small businesses on Marshall Plan export opportunities. He will advise on eligible commodities markets and assist exporters to gain a larger export share while distributing information on prospective buyers abroad.

Mrs Jerry M Hill Jr 57 of Junction City died at home Tuesday night Dec 5 after three years of declining health. She was born Jessie Worthen of Taylor County daughter of the late Mattie Bussey and R H Worthen. Survived by husband daughter Mrs J W Caudle of Columbus son Curtis Hill of Junction City and three grandchildren. Funeral at Junction City Baptist Church with Rev Thad Persons officiating.

E G Blackwell, former Taylor county farm agent, is honored with the National Association of County Agricultural Agents Distinguished Service Award at the 35th annual Chicago convention. Since 1945 he has served Monroe county as Agricultural Agent and the presentation was made by Horace Abbott of Indianapolis. The award process involves state and regional nominations with final NACAA approval.

Seven people including two adults and seven children were injured when a new Ford pickup overturned four miles north of Flint River in Upson County on a Friday morning. The Taunton couple, ages 35 and 30, and six of their youngsters suffered injuries ranging from cuts to severe head trauma. two children remained hospitalized after initial treatment at Montgomery Hospital before being released.
T E Tante of this city will be the guest of the Woodmen of the World December 15 and 16 at a field representatives meeting in New Orleans. More than 130 Woodmen field representatives in 25 states earned the all expense trip by Dennehy and the maximum number of membership applications this year to qualify for the producers club. Nine Georgia members of the Society qualified for the trip.
County Forrester Jno V Orr reports two local banks bought a Panter tree planter to aid farmers. County Agent John is in charge of the machine’s use and will set a date for its deployment. A fee of twenty five cents per thousand trees will cover the use and maintenance.
