Greenville reports Dr John W. Taylor has two new neighbors J A Barber and Jim Farmer Barber is a farmer and Farmer is a barber in a small town swap of trades and names Dec 3.
Waycross Chamber of Commerce announced bids will be opened December 12 for a three story concrete and steel factory building in Waycross Georgia. The 60 000 square foot plant will house a new shoe manufacturing facility in the city.
Fort Valley Baptist Church will observe the four hundredth anniversary of the printing of the English Bible next Sunday night. Speakers include M. D. Reed pastor and Messrs Charles Rogers C L Shepard and George Culpepper Jr.
President Roosevelt returns to Warm Springs Georgia after an overnight stay at Cason Callaway’s Blue Springs home. He went directly to the swimming pool for a plunge, resuming routine at his southern retreat.
Albany Ga December 2 The holiday season will begin tomorrow with a grand Christmas parade and the crowning of Santa Claus as King. Santa will light up an elaborate street lighting system with more than 2000 colored bulbs, marking the start of festive celebrations.
Sumter County Superior Court in Americus Georgia enters its second term under Judge Charles W. Worrill of Cuthbert due to illness of Judge W M Harper. Worrill sits in for Harper while Eugen Horne of Macon serves as city court reporter for J C Mebane who is also ill.
Talbotton Ga December 3 The following officers were elected to serve the Women's Missionary Union of the Methodist Church for the coming year Mrs J A Smith president Mrs J T Maxwell vice president Mrs W M McKe ithan secretary Mrs Dixon Olive treasurer and Mrs A O Hill general young people's leader.
Swainsboro Emanuel county weekly newspaper the Forest Blade was sold at executive sale for $11,000 to Douglas Boatright. He is the son of the late editor William E Boatright and has served as associate editor for years. His wife is the society editor.
Atlanta December 2 Congressman Cox of Camilla said he would answer Gov Talmadge's forthcoming address to President Roosevelt. He claimed Georgia already delivered an answer and Talmadge would be late with his reply.
Rev. A. B. Wall arrived in Talbotton to assume duties as new Methodist pastor. He preached his first sermon as city congregations joined in a welcome service. Wall previously led Arlington church. Rev. Theo Pharr moves to Cross Keys church in Macon next year.
Roberta Ga November 30 T M Mathews 58 a Crawford county lumberman was instantly killed this afternoon when his car backing into the highway collided with a truck nearby. No inquest decision reported by the coroner at Roberta.
Carnesville Ga December 2 Mrs Ben Terrell of near Carnesville was accidentally shot and killed while explaining to a 9 year old boy how a shotgun works at neighbor John Crump's home. The gun went off striking her.
The U S Department of Commerce Bureau of the Census will begin a business census canvas on January 2. The survey aims to provide a complete enumeration of business types and kinds and furnish businessmen with essential facts about business in 1935.
Arthur Lucas II, 21, son of theater operator Arthur Lucas, was shot and killed by his brother John while hunting near St Marys on the Georgia coast. A University of Georgia sophomore, he died before reaching St Marys. He leaves his parents, a sister Mrs Fred Storey, and brother John.
Sparta Ga Nov 29 During the murder trial of Winton Boyer a pickpocket lifted the pocketbook of Judge James B Park the 83 year old trial judge who has served the Ocmulgee circuit 24 years and also grabbed the wallet of local citizen W E Gibson attending the proceedings.
Montezuma Ga Dec 1 Charlie Dunham a young white man who runs a filling station on the highway between Oglethorpe and Montezuma was found Friday night with a bullet wound through his hip. The bullet shattered the leg bone from hip to knee. He says unknown assailants attacked him at his station. He was taken to Montezuma hospital in serious condition.
In Alamo Georgia a coroner's jury ruled the death of Dr J D Mangham a self inflicted act. The 27 year old physician was found dead in a hotel room after arriving February from Tifton. His wife was visiting Tifton at the time of death.
Atlanta reports a strong rise in state tax receipts for 1935 with 11 months totals reaching 24,907,798. Auditor Tom Wisdom notes the increase over 1934 and 1933, signaling a near all time high aside from 1930 and 1931.
Athens Ga Dec 8 Harry L Brown agricultural extension service director said farmers statewide should aid in shaping the new AAA cotton and corn hog programs to balance production with demand. About 139 400 Georgia cotton producers signed two year contracts expiring this season and 785 signed the 1935 corn hog deals.
Carrollton educators and journalists voiced opposition to the proposed 15 mill overall tax cap for Georgia. Superintendent M C Wiley of Carrollton Public Schools warned the plan would reduce school funds as is, while J J Thomasson editor of Carroll County Times called the 16 mill maximum unreasonable. A legislative committee is gathering information ahead of voters deciding in the next election.
A Washington report this week announced that during the last ten months Georgia immunized 27,467 children mostly below school age against diphtheria, placing the state above all southern states in Red Cross diphtheria immunization efforts.
A 1986 cotton adjustment plan is urged to stabilize prices after three years of program gains. Officials warn of high acreage incentives, remaining stock above normal, and a risk of renewed oversupply without an orderly production limit.
Oglethorpe Georgia reports Dr Charles A Greer re elected mayor after more than two decades in office in the regular Monday election. Incumbent council members Dan Kleckley W F Murray and W P McBride were retained. L Gardner named clerk and treasurer despite opposition. Other council members C T Harden and John F Williams will remain with terms not expiring.
Atlanta December 2 Walter McDonald a member of the Georgia Public Service Commission ousted by Governor Eugene Talmadge in 1933 was sworn in today to serve again He was elected to succeed J Tobe Daniels of La Grange whose term had expired November 30 Jud P Wilhoit chairman and Talmadge appointee was also sworn in to serve another term after the oath Governor praised both men with no mention of the 1933 ousting.
Three Toms Inn at Thomasville will open December 14 for the season. G. C. Krewson Jr of Magnolia Massachusetts will operate the inn again this year.
Judge M D Dickerson opened the Ware county grand jury at the December term of Superior Court and launched a broadside against slot machine operation. He recently inaugurated a similar movement in Coffee county.
W D Wilson a 35 year old farmer of Fort Valley died when his car overturned near Fort Valley on Route 49 while returning home. A negro passerby found the wreck and alerted officials Saturday night. Bulloch County sets a county wide primary for February 6 with qualifying until January 4 at noon and various official fees listed.
St Louis December 2 Bishop Ainsworth of the Methodist Episcopal Church South at Macon Georgia was elected peer of the Anti-Saloon League of America at the convention. Richard McBride was re elected general superintendent. A campaign of songs against repeal was launched with titles such as Buy Dry and Save Our Youth. Homer Rodeheaver performed and Bishop Ainsworth supported the proceedings.
