South Georgia Tobacco Crop Brings Big Money
The tobacco industry in South Georgia prepares for a strong year as stemmeries and re drying plants operate in Douglas Tifton and Fitzgerald. With favorable prices and a projected yield of about 1,000 pounds per acre at 25 cents, the crop could bring roughly 10 million dollars to local farmers. Land values remain low, offering profitable investment chances in the new tobacco belt.

Rioting Renewed at Belfast No Firearms In Evidence
Rioting flared in Belfast on the night of August 15 with no firearms seen. Short Strand, a nationalist area in East Belfast, was the focus as stones flew and the city stayed under siege until dawn. Four nationalists were arrested and a constable was badly injured. A Sinn Fein party returning from a sports meeting near Lurgan was fired upon, with one dead and another seriously wounded. Meanwhile Western Union began a global profit sharing payout totaling nearly two million dollars for the first half of 1920, with 4% of January earnings to each employee.
