Deputy Sheriff Killed in Duel at Holton Georgia
Macon reports Deputy Leland Williams a famed Georgia lawman was shot and killed during a raid on a negro gambling game at Holton. A negro, alleged shooter, was found dead by a fence with five bullets in him after daylight. Williams’ revolver was empty. it is believed he fired the fatal shots.

Soft Drink Tax Placed In Bill
Washington August 12 A ten percent tax on all soft drinks sold by dealers and a tax of one to two cents on soda fountain drinks were written into the 8 billion revenue bill by the House Ways and Means Committee. The plan calls for two cents on every ten cents paid for soft drinks at soda fountains and one cent on sales of seven cents or less, while bear bear and similar beverages would pay ten cents per gallon.
