The City Filling Station in Butler heart of city property, reopened by Blanford Jarrell after litigation over its removal. J. R. Gray, former tenant, surrendered lease and remodeled the Telephone Co. building at the northwest corner of the public square, expanding his stock of auto accessories and merchandise.

Preaching Services At Norwich Church This Sunday

The Norwich Methodist church announces regular services next Sunday. Rev. R. J. Ellerbee will preach in the morning on The Trials of the Saints and in the afternoon on Believe It Or Not from 3 p.m. The pastor urges members to attend both sessions as the third quarterly conference follows the afternoon service.

Champion Wood Chopper McLaren To Exhibit In Butler

Peter McLaren champion wood chopper will stage a log cutting contest and demonstration in Butler on Tuesday August 22 at 1130 a m. The event arranged by Jarrell's Department Store invites local men to compete with a fifty dollar prize if McLaren fails to chop through a leg in two thirds of the winner's time. Contestants must not use a Plumb Axe. Choppers should bring axes. entry is free.

Macon Man Sues Taylor Co for Auto Wreck Injuries

J. R. Worth of Macon filed suit in Macon county against Taylor County for 40 000 damages claiming injuries from a wreck on August 3 1988. The collision occurred when the car ran off a fill near the Flint River close to the Taylor Crawford line. Hall and Black of Macon represent the plaintiff. Trial likely in September before Judge B Deaver in Macon.

Taylor Co High Schools Keep Accredited Status

Butler and Reynolds High Schools retain accreditation for the next school year thanks to the loyalty of trustees teachers and many donors. First Open Cotton Reported in Taylor County

The Herald notes the first open cotton of the year in Taylor County reported Monday by Alfred Childres Jr. An assistant agronomist at the Griffin experiment station, he conducts a nitrogen experiment on the Lewis Ruffin farm south of Reynolds and reports several lopen bolls observed there.

A S Camp Named Representative of Fourth Georgia District

A Sidney Camp, 47, a former assistant district attorney, was elected to the Georgia House from the Fourth District defeating Edgar Blalock 8580 to 7796 in unofficial returns. Blalock conceded, noting Camp’s strong vote in Coweta. Meriwether and Carroll counties gave Camp smaller totals. Camp has background as farmer, textile worker, insurance man, and law graduate. he is related to the district attorney and previously worked as his first assistant.

Fire Destroys Harmon Barn and Livestock in Butler Area

Fire on the Harmon farm six miles southeast of Butler destroyed a large barn along with feed, two calves, and two mules. Lightning struck during a nighttime thunderstorm Saturday. neighbors say the flames spread quickly, preventing any salvage. The loss reportedly was not insured.

Paris Honeymoon Seen At Dean Theatre For Church Fund

The Finance Committee of Circle No 1 Butler Methodist will sponsor the 1939 film Paris Honeymoon at the Dean Theatre next Wednesday and Thursday. Proceeds benefit the church debt. Bing Crosby and Shirley Ross star in the movie, highly recommended for a good cause.

Death of Felton E. Owens Shocks Albany Community

Felton Edward Owens of Albany dies of a heart attack Friday night after a day of business as owner of Aladin Sales Co. He was 41, a native of Columbus, longtime Albany resident, husband of Miss Wile Sheppard, and father of three. He was a member of the First Methodist Church Albany American Legion Post 80 and Albany Lodge 4501 F and A M. Funeral services were held Sunday at the First Methodist Church with relatives, including Hon. J. W. Edwards, in attendance. He is survived by his children Mary Tennis Owens Felton Owens Jr and Peggy Owens a brother Gula Owens of Miami and his stepmother Mrs G W Owens.

Taylor County Negro Sought In Shooting Of Wife

Richard McCrary a negro farmer in the Panhandle district was sought by local authorities after he shot his wife in the head with a 410 shotgun at their home on the old Dr Mangham farm. The incident occurred around midnight Sunday and McCrary fled before Sheriff J M Bone arrived. The wife was not expected to live.

Sight Singing School At Mt. Pisgah Church To Close Tomorrow

Keen interest marks the Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist church singing school south of Butler led by Prof. T. R. Sisk and Mrs. Sisk of Toccoa Georgia. The class is among the largest in years and will close tomorrow with plans for the annual community singing, now dated for Friday or Sunday.
