Lewis O Crumpler a 22 year old Columbus man released briefly from an Alabama prison was shot in the abdomen during an attempted holdup at a Macon store. Store manager J P Stiles fired in self defense after Crumpler demanded money from a second register. Crumpler fled in a stolen car that had been taken moments earlier from Mrs Jerome Herman of Macon.

Atlanta July 80 Governor Talmadge rejected the Georgia Municipal Association request to have the federal Bureau of Roads deal directly with cities for 25 percent of Georgia road funds. He urged the association to stay clear of Washington while the highway dispute continues and pledged cooperation with the Highway Board to use state funds for highway construction. Friends in Taylor county learned of the death of Prof Paul Ellison 59 social science instructor at Georgia Southwestern College Americus. Born Fayetteville Ga he taught in Georgia schools 1905 1924 then joined Southwestern in 1988 as social science faculty and personnel director. He lived in Vienna and died at Wise Sanitarium after a brief illness. Funeral Saturday at 11 led by Rev O M Seigler with Rev J A Teresi officiating. burial in Pinehurst Cemetery.

Howard Church Hosts Quarterly Methodist Conference Session
The third quarterly conference for the Butler charge of Methodist churches met Thursday at Howard Methodist church. Rev. W. E. Hightower reported the charge in fine condition with progress vs last year. Revival services are planned for August and September. A new church cover and repainting were completed. A basket dinner was served to attendees by the church and local citizens.
