Sleeping Car Porters Celebrate Fifteenth Anniversary Milestone
President A. Philip Randolph outlined a record of steady progress by the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters ahead of the fifteenth anniversary convention in New York City. Since its 1926 founding, the union has organized porters, gained an international AF of L charter, achieved railroad status, and opened paths for black workers in labor unions amid opposition from the Pullman Company.
