Mine Pay Contract Signed In Illinois Paves Way For Agreements

Illinois miners and operators reached a four year contract reducing wages by 15 to 20 percent, pending a referendum of 90,000 union miners. The pact sets a 6.10 dollar daily wage and 0.91 per ton for tonnage miners, allowing installation of mechanical loading with tonnage pay where practical, with a new commission to finalize tonnage terms.

Labor problem challenged by Stelzle in radio address

Efficiency craze stirs Washington plate printers fury

Washington organized plate printers who print the nation's money accuse treasury officials of promoting small bank notes to ease counterfeiting. They cite layoffs and furloughs, blaming the Bureau of Efficiency for saving a few thousand dollars while risking widespread forgery. Frank J. Coleman, editor of Plate Printer, says the new notes will deter genuine protection and mocks efficiency rhetoric.

Washington reports from Australian labor papers show Communists using anti union tactics similar to those in America. They sneer at class collaboration and urge workers to abandon belief in constitutionalism. In Australia they oppose the labor party while in New York City they organize fake cloak makers unions to undermine garment workers.

Trade Union Women to Showcase Industrial Progress in Chicago

Chicago's trade union women plan a comprehensive exhibit at the Auditorium hotel October 24 to 27 under the Chicago Women's Trade Union League with Agnes Nestor as president. Carolina unions seek conference in Tennessee

A two day conference of state federations of labor for all southern states east of the Mississippi will be held in Chattanooga on October 20 and 21. The North Carolina federation will seek support from W C Birthright of Tennessee for united action in organization work workers education and uniform labor legislation. Paul J Aymon of the Tennessee Federation of Labor approved the idea.
