Meany Urges Labor Unity and Postwar Planning

George Meany spoke at the Labor Day statue unveiling in Uniondale urging AFL unity and quick planning to avert postwar economic collapse. He called for an immediate planning agency with labor, agriculture, industry, and government to keep industry moving and ensure American workers remain employed after the war.

Charter Committee Council Candidates Named in City Race

The Hamilton Charter Committee endorsed five candidates for the November 4 election. They are Raymond H. Burke, William Beckett, Edwin J. Bartels, Howard F. Wilson, and Braxton Tewart. Burke and Beckett are council members. Bartels and Tewart were candidates two years ago. Wilson is new to municipal politics. A campaign chairman may be chosen after another meeting.

Tommy Dorsey to Play for Sesqui Dancers on Oct 7

The Tommy Dorsey orchestra with Frank Sinatra Connie Haines Zigey Elman and others will perform October 7 in The Garden Under the Stars at the Butler County Centennial celebration's dance floor at the Hamilton Butler County Fairgrounds. Admission 75 cents, with advance tickets in strips offering 50 cents per person. The Garden Under the Stars runs October 6–11 nightly with top bands announced later.
