Rochester Building Trades Union Adopts Five Day Week

The Building Trades Council of Rochester now has all crafts on a five day week with no wage cuts and some increases. Plumbers Local 13 signed for $11.50 per day with future increases to $12, totaling $57.50 weekly now and $60 after January 1 1931. Other crafts list daily or hourly scales and notes asbestos workers first to sign.

NYC Lodging House Plans to Double Capacity for Winter Demand

The New York City municipal lodging house, now serving more unemployed men women and children than last winter, plans to double capacity with charity aid to meet expected free food and lodging needs. For the quarter to June 30 the average daily housed and fed was 980, above 948 in 1914 and 970 in 1915. On August 25 the tally reached 1,245 with about 7 percent women and children. last December nightly totals seldom exceeded 1,060, and this summer shows a 50 percent rise from last year with 69 percent of applicants from outside the city.

Unemployment Census Figures Released Across States
