Pulp and Paper Workers Union Renews War Time No-Strike Pledge

Delegates at the 20th convention of the International Brotherhood of Pulp Sulphite and Paper Mill Workers voted unanimously to renew a war time no-strike pledge. Locals 443 Cleveland and 107 New York City sent no-strike resolutions amended to last for the duration of the war. Union President J P Banke urged labor’s weapon, stating strikes should be avoided except in national emergencies. The convention decided to admit returning veterans without admission fees.

NWLB Criticized For Passing Back To FDR

Washington D C labor leaders assail the National War Labor Board for declining to urge wage freeeze changes. The board voted 8 to 4 with labor members dissenting to pass the issue back to the White House. They plan to prepare a fact and equity review on wages and cost of living before presenting it to Economic Stabilization Director Vinson as no change to the Little Steel formula is expected.
