Fall Coloring issues a multi day schedule detailing exhibit readiness by 6 p.m. Tuesday October 6. Soldiers admitted free with badge or discharge papers. Daily events include band concerts, judging of horses dairy cattle swine and sheep, harness races at 1 p.m., calf club activities, night shows and fireworks with a grand premium stock parade on the final day.
In Lynn Massachusetts workers overwhelmingly voted to rejoin the Boot and Shoe Workers' Union linked to the U of L. The initial lure of a dual organization offering a shortcut to a better world proved illusory as workers returned to grounded union allegiance.
The 75th Butler County Fair promises a record showing as entries surge across all departments. Secretary M. D. Urmston reports growing interest in fine arts dairy and pantry divisions, with swine sheep and cattle entries up and overflow tents planned. The thirty seventh semi annual convention of the Ohio Typographical Conference will meet in Springfield October 10 11 for a two day session. Governor Donahey and other officials will speak at the banquet with notable attendees from labor and education groups. The event includes a reception, speeches, a banquet, an officers election, and reports on union affairs and Ohio trade.
Mexico City reports President Calles urged Congress to limit alien land ownership to avoid clashes with agrarian law. He said foreigners should not evade limits by joining societies or forming business agreements here, asserting such arrangements must be Mexican.
Rev Francis J Haas professor at Marquette University urges scientific minimum budgets and a universal minimum wage to provide a family of five with 1800 dollars in large cities and 1600 in small towns. He cites Bureau of Labor Statistics budgets and warns low wages fuel illness mortality and substandard health among workers. He argues wages should rise with rising productivity and not simply match cost of living.
New York Central engine 3334 powered a 10 car passenger train from New York to Chicago and back covering 2000 miles in 72 hours. The actual running time was 46 hours. Crews were changed at seven points along the route, with no engine change after division runs.
The Federation Bank for New York owned by trade unionists affiliated to the A P of L has been designated by Mexico as its official bank in this city.
