Green Tells AFL Convention Peace Effort Aims for Unity

At the sixtieth AFL convention in New Orleans President William Green said President Roosevelt seeks to bring unity by having AFL and CIO committees meet at the White House to resume peace talks. He pledged readiness to meet CIO at any time and urged resolving labor disputes by conference, while noting the CIO chair would not permit such talks. Secretary Stimson praised AFL cooperation in defense and labor rights, and Governor Sam Jones hailed the AFL as healthy for organized labor.

Secretary Perkins Sees 6 000 000 Job Increase

Guild Group Starts New Anti Red Paper in Los Angeles

The Guild American is a four page weekly started to oppose the Communist party line in the American Newspaper Guild. The first issue appeared on November 6 and is published by the Guild American Committee which says it has enrolled nearly 100 members in two weeks.

AFL Council Outlines Policies For Year Of Progress

New Orleans report shows the AFL with a 4 ¼ million membership and a strong defense stance. The executive council's 194 page summary favors defense, anti racketeering measures, and wage peace while seeking to abolish the one cent assessment and adjust per capita taxes amid expansion of unions and new industry groups.

Labor Conference Postponed to December 9 in Washington

The seventh national conference on labor legislation, originally set to begin November 12, will now convene December 9 in Washington. Verne A. Zimmer said many state officials plan to attend other meetings related to AFL and CIO conventions. About 40 states and territories will be represented, with focus on integrating state labor regulations with the national defense program.

Labor Migration Warnings From Ohio Employment Service
