Wars Engendered by Autocratic Governments

The American Federation of Labor at Cincinnati denounces totalitarian regimes in Europe and links dictatorship to war. Factory Employment Gains 700000 Since July 15

Washington reports 700000 more factory workers on Oct 15 than July 15. Between Aug 15 and Sept 16 manufacturing added nearly 300000 jobs, with a further 200000 rising from Sept 16 to Oct 15 and another 200000 from July 15 to Aug 15. Major gains occurred in iron and steel, cotton and woolen goods, meat packing, and electrical machinery.

Labor leaders in Ohio urge Bricker to act on relief

The Ohio State Federation of Labor and AF of C central bodies met with Governor Bricker after study of the relief crisis. They postponed action from October 26 until after the November 7 election, urging immediate aid as hunger and deprivation spread, with Bricker pledging to stay in touch and seek action if possible.

Roosevelt urged to run for third term by shoe workers

The United Shoe Workers of America, CIO affiliate, urged President Roosevelt to seek a third term at their second biennial convention in Rochester, N Y, arguing that additional war in Europe would not secure peace. Senator Arthur Capper of Kansas cautioned against extending U S engagement.
