Labor bureau reports 53 wage increases in April
The May issue of Facts for Workers notes April saw 55 wage increases and more cuts than in February or March. Metals and mining saw half the nine cuts. textiles and clothing four cuts. Printing crafts led with sixteen raises, construction and transportation with fifteen each. Since Jan 1 over 160,000 railway shop workers across sixteen roads gained raises as railroad employment declines. US manufacturing up about 1 percent in April, total about 5 percent above last March.
