In Hamilton plants the Victory Loan drive nears 176000 with workers and army canvassers led by Commander Atkins showing strong enthusiasm. Many join the effort voluntarily and pledge to finish the campaign, with office foremen praising workers for patriotism and loyalty.
The Hamilton Machine Tool Company strike remains on with no change. Company hires a few Cincinnati workers but machinists say that is not enough to end the stoppage. Some Hamilton residents who did not strike have left their jobs.
Local postal clerks meeting at the Y M C A decided to affiliate with the American Federation of Labor in addition to their existing National Association of Post Office Clerks ties. Delegates from Toledo and Cincinnati attended, with city carriers already in the A F L fold and rural carriers expected to join soon. The Press welcomes the new affiliation and wishes prosperity.
Russell argues that League of Nations adoption must be swift to avert a European collapse. He warns U.S. Senate ratification could derail peace efforts, urging immediate support and sacrifice to feed starving Europe. Also brief note on Bethlehem Steel Lebanon strike of 1500 workers facing 32.5 percent wage cuts.
Detroit stove mounting plants faced ongoing strikes since February 1915 as workers demand union rights and higher wages. Michigan Stove Co Peninsular Stove Co Art Stove Co and Detroit Stove Works faced non union operations and wage disputes. The American Federation of Labor supported union action and urged wide publicity and negotiation efforts. Richmond Cal Pottery Workers union No 89 calls for a six hour day and a National Brotherhood of Operative Potters convention endorsement.
