Defining Legal Privileges Of Unions In Political Campaigns

The Ohio State Federation of Labor outlines allowed and forbidden political activities for unions under Section 9 of the 1925 act. Unions cannot make or accept direct political contributions or proffer literature or ads for federal campaigns. Unions may spend on their own programs and invite candidates to discuss labor issues, while individuals may contribute in their personal capacity.

ITU Votes Again On Reaffiliation

Indianapolis Indiana Acting on a petition of 129 local unions the Executive Council of the International Typographical Union ordered a referendum vote for May 17 on reaffiliation with the American Federation of Labor The ballot will include the AFL convention’s autonomy action from 1944 as previously agreed upon by committees in 1941 The ITU suspended by the AFL in 1939 The earlier vote to reaffiliate was narrowly defeated by 1225 votes

Public Sale At Robert Goos Residence

A public sale will be held at Robert Goos residence two and one half miles south of Hamilton on the Smith road. The sale is scheduled for Friday March 81 at 11 oclock. Livestock including cattle hogs sheep chickens and other animals will be sold. Harry Honerlaw acts as auctioneer.

Labor Fights for Servicemen Says AFL Leader

President William Green of the AFL told a national radio audience that labor will outproduce the enemy and fight for servicemen by preserving the American standard of living, securing jobs for veterans, expanding postwar production, and backing six months unemployment protection for ex servicemen. He urged lump-sum demobilization pay, education grants, free hospitalization, disability compensation, and full vocational training to help veterans reenter civilian life.

Labor and management pledge bridge of landing craft for Navy

Washington officials and AFL leaders toured east coast bases with 18 labor and management reps of the landing craft industry. Lt. Comd. Cox urged rapid ship and crew training as AFL Director Frank Fenton pledged no strikes and full production to aid the Allied invasion effort. Other AFL figures on the trip included Lewis Hines and Eric Peterson.

William Honald Dies Sudden at 45 in Dayton YMCA

William Honald age 45 formerly of Scranton Pa died of a heart attack Tuesday in his room at the YMCA Dayton He was a machinist with Koehler Aircraft Production Company and had resided at the YMCA since January 7 1941 He previously worked at General Machinery Corporation He came to Hamilton with M J McMahon business representative of the International Association of Machinists and was a member of the Machinists Union.

Cisle Low Bidder for Road Repairs in Butler County

The state highway department announced in Columbus that D.8. Cisle of Hamilton appears to be the low bidder at 27184.80 dollars for paving 1.307 miles of State Route 73 in Butler County. The road segment runs through Middletown toward the north past the highway garage.

Lucien Kahn, chairman, reported that Hamilton’s Red Cross drive has raised $103,545 toward a $121,000 quota with three days left in the campaign.
