AFL Human Rights Donates for India Famine Relief

Drop in U S labor laid to layoffs
The OWI reports December job losses were the largest monthly drop since the war began with about 120000 fewer workers. For every thousand workers 48 quit, five entered the services, six were fired, nine laid off and 51 hired. Layoffs were highest since July 1942 despite lower quit rates. Provo Utah saw 93 of 100 workers leave in October due to plant closures and anticipated layoffs.

Wage Increase Approved for St Louis Trucking Workers
About 600 platform workers employed by trucking companies tied to St Louis Operators Council will gain a 5 cent an hour raise. The National War Labor Board Trucking Commission approved the application filed by the association and the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. The workers, non drivers, are with roughly 112 companies in the St Louis area. the average wage before the raise was 66 1/2 cents an hour.
