West Side Aid Society completes preparations for Saturday flag raising at Millville Progress and Park avenues. A 12 by 20 foot flag will lead a parade of six Patriotic League girls and 1000 school children, with singing under Prof Will H Lebo and ice cream service by Lincoln School women.
Textile Workers met Tuesday night with about fifty members present. Mary Williamson chaired as reports from the Woolen Mill were reviewed and pushed to next steps. A Lawn Fete committee reported progress selling tickets and arranging music for the event. The group plans to march in the Labor Day parade and invites friends to attend the fete.
National labor delegates from across the United States plan mass meetings in Washington and cities worldwide to demand a presidential intervention for Thomas J. Mooney. They seek a new trial, citing perjury and corruption in the California case, and urge President Wilson to place Mooney in federal court as the war effort hinges on trust in democracy and justice.
Ernest Eldridge of Molders Union No 68 saved a drowning girl in the Miami River near Two Mile Bridge after James Weatherly, camping nearby, went in to help. Weatherly drowned. Eldridge, recovering from burns at the American Foundry, acted quickly and brought the girl to shore. The girl was revived and later returned home.
The American Federation of Labor is probing social health insurance promoters for their personnel and finances. A special executive council committee will report in August with a draft bill for state legislatures. Labor fears the backers do not represent workers and condemns the movement as unsuitable.
