Wage Orders Lift Pay for 800,000 Under Fair Labor Act
Washington reports that about 800,000 workers in low wage industries gain higher pay via wage orders under the Fair Labor Standards Act. By July end, over 800,000 will receive increases, with 40 cents an hour universal by October 24, 1945. Textile, garment, railroad, and shoe workers form the largest groups affected. The wage orders, upheld by court cases, expand minimums from 30 to 40 cents in covered sectors.

Butler County to Lease Mercy Property for TB Hospital
Butler County commissioners tentatively agree with the Sisters of Mercy to lease a corner Front and Dayton Streets site from Mercy Hospital to establish a temporary tuberculosis hospital in 1942. The unit will be staffed by the Sisters of Mercy, funded by a proposed one quarter mill levy to raise about $42,500 for 1942 care, reducing out-of-county placements.
