Cigar Makers Protest Cuban Factory Moves to New Jersey

Acting President R E Van Horn of the Cigar Makers International Union filed a protest with Secretary Doak against moving Cuban cigar factories to the United States citing planned import of Cuban workers. Union warns Trenton will face strong organized labor opposition as Cuban plants seek to evade tariffs and lower prices for American smokers.

Sixty, Jobless, Must Move From Brooklyn Theatre Landing

Louis Bringmann a 60 year old former hotel chef, living on the top fire escape landing of the idle Atlantic Theatre in Brooklyn, was ordered to move by police after fire inspectors raised the issue. A kind officer tipped him a half dollar as he carried his sea chest and blanket toward Tin Mountain a waterfront area for beaten men. Longer summer vacations cut pay for New York workers
