Chicago Teachers Union Named City Bargaining Agency

The Chicago Board of Education recognized the Chicago Teachers Union Local No 1 as the bargaining agency for public school teachers. McInerney Dies at 47 Head of Building Trades Group

Joseph A. McInerney president of the AFL Building and Construction Trades Department died at Midtown Hospital July 10 after a five month illness. He was born in New York City and survived by his widow Mary Melnerney and five children.

Anti-Picketing Act Upheld by Oregon Court

In a unanimous en banc ruling on July 8, three state circuit judges held Oregon's anti-picketing law legal in full. The ILA, AFL and Big Four Railroad Brotherhoods said they will appeal to the State Supreme Court. The act allows picketing only when a genuine dispute exists between a majority of employees and the employer over wages hours or working conditions.
