The Niles Tool Works plant in Hamilton announces a 45 hour work week for the machine department starting Monday with eight hours daily and five on Saturday. Wages rise 20 percent so pay remains near prior levels. Company aims to improve worker conditions and leadership notes a broader shift toward democratic labor relations and service over status.
The Hamilton Machine Tool Co case in Butler County Common Pleas held striking workers may approach prospective employers to seek sympathy, ruling the injunction petition lacks merit. Judge Clevenger dismissed the petition and contempt citation, noting only minor incidents tied to a strike and no proof of concerted interference.
The Mosler Safe Company agreed to a 45 hour week with no pay cut, down from 62 and a half hours. A six cent an hour wage increase is promised once conditions warrant, target by January 1. The machinists union claims a major victory as plant craft reach about 98 percent organization.
