Strike Declared at Champion Mills Over Wages

The papermakers union announced a strike at Champion mills after company representatives refused to formally meet as a committee. The demands include higher wages, elimination of the bonus system, and union recognition. Company officials refused to discuss the proposal, promising only to meet workers individually.

Unionists Win Wage Increases Across League of Shops

The Carpenters' union No. Ls of Peoria 111 defeated the Carpenter Contractors' association ending a city wide lockout. Wages rise to 70 cents an hour and conditions improve. Other unions report gains: Hocking Valley railroad workers in Columbus Ohio gain higher pay, Wabash railroad workers in St. Louis get 6 cents more hourly, Canadian Pacific in Toronto raises wages, Tacoma brewery workers gain eight hour day and nine hours pay after four hours, Los Angeles breweries sign broader agreement with pay boosts of 10 to 20 percent, St Paul Brewery Workers win a $2 weekly rise under a three year contract.

Molders Strike Persists at Niles Plant

Molders at the Niles plant remain on strike backed by the International union receiving four fifty weekly plus local union aid. The company ships patterns to Dayton Ohio for casting and three workers at the Dayton plant take on jobs there. Union men fund weekly 25 cent assessments to aid strikers while ball games are halted and fish fries arranged. Eagles picnic tickets were given with pay.
